Ardys Lurtsema

Ardys has been involved in the arts and art education since her days at Wayne State University where she received a Master of Education degree and also studied at the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts. After moving to Illinois she studied botanical illustration at the Field Museum in Chicago while she was teaching art in the middle school and serving as President of the Naperville Art League.

After being an award-winning ceramist for 35 years, Ardys began concentrating exclusively on her lifelong love of drawing. She concentrates on pen and ink, colored pencil, watercolor, and acrylics. Intricate drawings of the natural world are her specialty. She works out of her studio in Tucson.

In addition, Ardys works closely with her surface-designer daughter, licensing their designs to manufacturers for use on products such as rugs, coasters, trays, and stationery. These products are sold in stores across the country.
