The “Deserts of the Americas” is my favorite eco tour of the Conservatory of the New York Botanical Garden. I selected the Opuntia to sketch and photograph over a number of visits to the Conservatory and then to follow up with a painting in my studio.
Ingrid Finnan’s exhibition history includes: The American Society of Botanical Artists International Juried Botanical Art Exhibitions (9th through 16th), recipient of the Eleanor Wunderlich Award for Excellence (2012), and cover art for the 10th catalogue (2007); The New York Botanical Garden and the ASBA’s joint exhibitions Losing Paradise? Endangered Species Here and Around the World (2009), and Green Currency - Plants in the Economy (2011), recipient of the Bronze Medal for the latter show; Filoli’s Annual Botanical Art Exhibitions (9th through 15th), recipient of the Bourn Award (2013); and Following in the Bartrams’ Footsteps (2013). Her painting of ginger, Zingiber officinale, in the collection of Shirley Sherwood, was shown in Botanical Art Into the Third Millennium, Museo della Grafica, Pisa, Italy, (2013).
