Jo Ann Loza-Woodley
Jo Ann Loza-Woodley was born in Arizona and has lived in Arizona her entire life. She learned much about the natural world at an early age, following her grandfather in his garden and taking extended camping trips in Northern Arizona. Growing up, Jo Ann lived with many pets, including cats, dogs, pigeons, parakeets, fish, rabbits, a horse, and a desert tortoise.
Jo Ann completed the certification program in Botanical Art and Illustration at the Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona. She prepared six botanical plates for the 2010-11 exhibit “Grand Canyon’s Green Heart: The Unsung Legacy of Plants” held at the Kolb Gallery at the Grand Canyon. She participated in the Southwest Society of Botanical Artists exhibition at the Tempe Public Library. Jo Ann has prepared educational plant illustrations for the River Pathways Program for Audubon Arizona to encourage students to learn about our natural world.
Currently, Jo Ann is working on illustrations for the University of Arizona project “Legumes of Arizona.” She has published work in the Intermountain Flora: Vascular Plants of the Intermountain West, U.S.A. (NYBG Press). Jo Ann is a long time member of the Colored Pencil Society, National and State levels, as well as a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and the local chapter, Southwest Society of Botanical Artists.
Jo Ann is also a wildlife artist. She travels extensively and enjoys the amazing inspiration of nature from all over the world, as well as her own back yard.
